Name: Asuka Yoshikawa         EIC Year participated: 2010         Hometown: Nara
Now: A university student in Kanto

Hellooooo EIC family :-)

My name is Asuka and I joined EIC in 2010 when I was in the grade 6 of elementary school.

Me in EIC 2010    Me now!

What are you doing now?

I’ am currently a member of EIC cafe@Kansai since 2013 and now coordinating for EIC cafe@kanto.

If you live in Kansai or Kanto areas and are interested in EIC café please do not hesitate to ask me anything.

Now, I’m in the second grade of a university and have been majoring (studying) in global studies and
collaboration, especially about how to live with people from different cultures without any discrimination (差別). I’m sure there are many ways for multicultural symbiosis (living together), through trial and error. Since I have 3 more years at university, I might not have enough time to find everything satisfactory. So during this long spring vacation, I will try to do whatever I want.

Actually, I’ve been interested in internship experience and I’ve participated in an internship at ANA company. I took a lecture about an airline business and the history of ANA. I got a chance to join the  global public relations and cooperation planning with overseas office of ANA in English.

Besides internship, I’ve been trying to contribute to EIC Cafe@Kanto as much as possible. I really enjoy myself in EIC cafe from the bottom of heart and also am honored to be a member of EIC family.

Why did you choose the things you are doing now?
I always do things out of my curiosity.
Do you know about Thomas Jeffrey (“Tom” Hanks)???
I learned one precious thought from his movie “Forrest Gump”: 「 Life is like a box of chocolates….you never know what’chu’gonah get.」
I do not want to live with regrets, so I will just do whatever I want.

How EIC influenced your life?
After I joined EIC in 2010, everything changed completely so much. Guess how did I change? 4
To be honest, I hated English so much. However, after participated in EIC, I came to like English. Now, 9 with CLsI use English as an instrument (tool) of communication everyday, though I can hardly believe it myself sometimes. EIC gave me tremendous confidence. Thanks to EIC my worldview too has drastically changed so much. So I really want to return the favor in some way.

Last year I studied abroad in Thailand for one semester, but I faced a number of difficulties such as language barrier or cultural differencessry. I felt tired physically and mentally.

I wanted to runaway each time, but tried to go back to the starting point, which was EIC. Then I tried saying EIC slogan out loud. Do you still remember? If you are facing difficulty with English, try say the slogan out loud!

Next challenge?
① To get TOEIC score of over 950 this summer!
② To gain practical experiences in various fields!

Message to EIC family:
Please try to do what you want and never give up!

Learn from your mistakes. If you focus on the negative and think of it as a mistake, you will make yourself afraid to move ahead. If you focus on the positive and view it as a learning experience, you will be able to move ahead.

The people who I want to know what they are doing now:

all again some day somewhere.
